A man might have been driving to the desert to commit suicide when he got into a wreck then shot himself in the head as he sat in his crashed car, North Las Vegas Police said.
It appears the man tried to kill himself Monday morning after a two-car accident near the Las Vegas Beltway and Losee Road, police said.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and North Las Vegas Police responded to the crash, which happened about 7 a.m. in the north part of the valley.
Authorities said it appears a PT Cruiser was headed north on Losee Road and ran a red light, colliding with a Toyota Prius going east on the Las Vegas Beltway. Responding officers found the driver of the PT Cruiser with a gunshot wound to the head, officials said.
North Las Vegas Police spokesman Tim Bedwell said, based on evidence and witness statements, investigators concluded the man tried to commit suicide after the crash.
Investigators believe the man may have planned to commit suicide in a desert area north of the accident site, he said.
Police said he was the only person in the car and a weapon was found near him.
The man was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.
The occupants of the other car suffered minor injuries.

Yeah! More guns...that's the answer!
If not a gun it would have been a knife, a rope, an explosive device, or one of thousands of other everyday things that could be used as a weapon. Leftist liberals won't be happy until until steak knives are banned and everyone is wrapped safely in a thick rubber and plastic bubble, and when nobody has to think for themselves, take any personal responsibility for their own actions, or just use common sense in general. Only then can liberals be appeased, even then so, likely not.
...and such are the vagaries of a life lived inside a Stephen King novel.
How about this person killing himself inside his home or PARKED car instead of driving through red lights and endangering some innocent soul that's chosen to tough it out and live and is just trying to make his or her way to home or work. Always troubling to think that you might be sharing the road with the suicidal.
Heretic,
Harley is merely putting into words what Mike Smith put into his cartoon the other day. Take a look at it: http://www.lasvegassun.com/photos/2012/f...
For the selective readers (or those that commented without reading the article)...
The man is not dead.
The article indicates he is in critical condition.
As of this morning, reports indicate he is still alive.
Well, silly comments certainly aren't a solution, eh? Inanimate objects (cars, guns, pills) do no harm; only crazy people with no respect for the inanimate object's power harm themselves and other people.
The last gun anti gun go round on these pages saw actual government statistics decisively debunking the anti gun comments, I am way too tired to show you the error of your ways again.
I wish I had opened Harley's (and the others that were hidden) comment before I wrote. Satire cuts both ways I see.
This guy must need some serious help if he can't even succeed at killing himself.
