Nevada housing official cited for soliciting sex

The recently appointed administrator of the Nevada Housing Division has been placed on administrative leave after being cited for soliciting and engaging in prostitution.

Jim deProsse of Sparks was cited by Reno police during a vice operation “for soliciting the services of a female.” Several others were cited April 26.

DeProsse was appointed in January as head of the housing division by Bruce Breslow, director of the Department of Business and Industry. He previously was administrator of the state Manufactured Housing Division.

Breslow confirmed he placed deProsse on administrative leave with pay several weeks ago. He declined to say the reason and added a decision will be “made on the matter in the future.”

But the citation, which is equal to a misdemeanor, has been dismissed by the Reno city attorney’s office.

City Chief Prosecutor Dan Wong said this was the first time deProsse has been in trouble. He said deProsse underwent counseling and got a favorable report that he would not commit the offense again.

Wong said his deputy handled the case and the dismissal was without prejudice. He said the case could be refiled if deProsse is cited again.

DeProsse could not be reached for comment.
